Episode 97 Full Recap (Spoilers)

Spoiler warning: this recap covers the whole episode.

The Fire Lotus Breaks the Elders' Formation

Xiao Yan faces the joint formation of three Dou Zong elders from Fenglei North Pavilion. He uses the Destructive Fire Lotus to destroy the formation, then joins forces with the Earth Demon Puppet to kill Hong Tianxiao. That battle finishes the Han family crisis, and it helps him assemble the full version of the Illusory Body of the Three Thousand Rays. He still lacks the key to train it, though, so the technique stays out of reach for now.

Hunted Toward the Tianshan Blood Pond

Xiao Yan hears that the Tianshan Blood Pond in the the Heavenly Tomb Mountains can help a person grow stronger, and he wants to reach Dou Zong without missing the chance. Fei Tian, head of Fenglei North Pavilion, usually acts in person, and he sets out to hunt Xiao Yan and recover the pavilion's treasure. Xiao Yan's spirit companion holds Fei Tian back so he can run, and the two plan to regroup later. The old spirit has to keep Fei Tian busy while Xiao Yan escapes.

Fei Tian's Clone and the Fallen Heart Flame

Fei Tian offers a trade: hand over the Three Thousand Rays and the fire knowledge, and he may let Xiao Yan go. Xiao Yan refuses, and the fight turns into a battle with a clone of Fei Tian. The clone is at the Ascension level of training, far from the full strength of the main body. Xiao Yan turns to the Fallen Heart Flame, which can burn the soul, and destroys the clone. Because the original body was never hurt, Fei Tian is not defeated, only forced to retreat.

Training Stalls and a Monster Mountain Standoff

Back in hiding, Xiao Yan keeps trying to form his own clone, and every attempt fails. He is interrupted by a monster commander who says Xiao Yan hurt his people and took a spiritual fruit from his territory. Xiao Yan strikes first in secret, and the monster realizes he is outmatched. Because Xiao Yan once helped him, the commander lets him go and warns about the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan, whose bone wings Xiao Yan now carries.
