Episode 173 Full Recap (Spoilers)

Spoiler warning: this recap covers the whole episode.

Xiao Yan's Dou Saint breakthrough

A one-star Dou Saint named Xiao Yan appears in the world and uses his own Buddha's Anger Reincarnation to burn down every Semi-Saint-level enemy. News of the Styx Alliance's defeat spreads across the Central Plains, and Xiao Yan leads the pursuit to destroy the alliance completely.

Alliance letters and a warning from the Hall of Souls

The Falling Star Pavilion secretly sends alliance letters to three top-level forces, because Xiao Yan knows only a united front can fight the Hall of Souls. The Hall of Souls responds with anger. Voices inside it argue that the Bodhi Heart gave Xiao Yan a leap to Dou Saint on an unstable foundation, and an elder warns that the Hall of Souls is watching the Central Plains like a tiger.

Burning Flame Valley joins the alliance

Xiao Yan visits Elder Huo Yun of Burning Flame Valley and pays his respects. The valley's family teases that a polite young man willing to marry Huo'er would win their parents' approval. Xiao Yan offers to cure the elders' hidden illnesses whether or not they join. Elder Huo Yun agrees to form the alliance, and the valley will meet at the Falling Star Pavilion, where the protective formation must be repaired.

The Flower Sect refuses, with a three-day deadline

A Hall of Souls ambush breaks the Flower Sect's protective formation, and the Grand Elder emerges from seclusion just in time to drive the attackers away. Yao Chen appears, and a Flower Sect elder is stunned that he is still alive. The Flower Sect refuses to join, blaming the Falling Star Pavilion for its calamity, but sets a three-day deadline: if the visitor returns, it agrees; if not, the matter is treated as if it never happened.

The Little Pill Tower's council vote

The Pill Tower has always stayed neutral, so the alliance hinges on the Little Pill Tower's Council of Elders. The council has eight seats, and at least half must agree. Brother Chen and Xiao Yan set out to make the case. In three days, new elders join the council with voting rights, and the most competitive candidate is Elder Hou, who resents Yao Chen for defeating him in an earlier Alchemy Tournament.

An alchemy contest with Elder Hou

Xiao Yan, the Alchemy Tournament champion and an eighth-level alchemist, is eligible to run for a Giant seat. Elder Hou confronts Yao Chen over his past departure and vows to meet Xiao Yan in the contest. Grand Elder Lin sets the rules: candidates may request any medicinal materials, and the highest-quality pill wins. Xiao Yan enters, promising his teacher he will not bring shame to his name.
