Episode 40 Full Recap (Spoilers)

Spoiler warning: this recap covers the whole episode.

The Xiao Family Settles Into the Capital

Xiao Ding and his family are given a home in the capital, which the episode describes as the most stable place for the royal family. Yafei arranges the house and tells Xiao Ding to ask for anything he is missing. A medical teacher is called in to check the family's health. Xiao Ding thanks Yafei and the Miter family, admitting the Xiao family would have been wiped out without their help.

Xiao Yan Wakes Inside the Fallen Heart Flame

Xiao Yan wakes deep underground, inside the stomach of the Fallen Heart Flame. The Bone Spirit Cold Flame explains that he has been there for almost half a month, while the flame tries to purify the Lotus Heart Fire in his body. The cold flame held the process back during his coma, but it is draining its own energy and cannot last much longer. A fireball thrown from here would be swallowed by the magma, so escape looks impossible.

The Cold Flame Prepares to Sleep

The cold flame promises three more days of protection before it hands over the rest of its soul power and falls asleep. It points Xiao Yan toward a lotus altar and an Earth Spiritual Pill for when he cannot hold on. Xiao Yan refuses to die in this place, pointing to his need for revenge against those who humiliated the Xiao family and his search for his missing father.

Zi Yan Takes Over the Pan Gate

Back at the Pan Gate, Zi Yan declares that he ranks first on the list and will guard the gate in Xiao Yan's place. The elders are ordered to seal the door to the top floor for good. Investigators have searched for the Black Angle Domain master who attacked the gate, and a plan is set to gather people after a month. Xiao Yan's second brother in the Black Angle Domain is placed under protection.

Medusa Admits They Are Trapped Together

Queen Medusa reveals that she was swallowed along with Xiao Yan's original body, and the two of them are stuck in the birthplace of the Fallen Heart Flame. Her strength alone cannot break through the heavenly flame here, so they must work together. Breaking the seal could release the sea of magma, and Medusa warns that if she dies, he cannot get out either. The episode ends with the flame's power growing more dangerous.
