Episode 52 Full Recap (Spoilers)

Spoiler warning: this recap covers the whole episode.

Xiao Yan crosses back into Jiama at Ghost Border

After two months of travel, Xiao Yan and his group reach the Ghost Border, the frontier of the Jiama Kingdom. The city looks the same as before, but the people and the mood have changed, and a battle aura hangs over the streets. Xiao Yan is quick to notice that something is wrong, because the city is under armed control. He recalls the moment three years earlier when Mu Tie let him escape, and he promises to repay that debt.

Mu Tie refuses to serve the Yunlan Sect

Yunlan elder Yun Fan arrives to press Mu Tie, promising that the Yunlan Sect will protect him if he serves them. Mu Tie answers that the sect betrayed the country, and that a general of the kingdom must stay loyal to the state even if he dies. He vows that the Yunlan Sect will never take over the Ghost Border. The standoff turns into open war on the border.

Xiao Yan takes on Yun Fan's disciples

Yun Fan calls out for the Yunlan disciples to attack, and the Yunlan side brings many peak Dou Lings to the field. Xiao Yan, who has just reached Dou Wang level, pushes through the enemy and takes the battle to Yun Fan. Yun Fan threatens to kill him and says the Yunlan Sect will not forgive anyone who harms its leader, Yun Shan. Xiao Yan retorts that Yun Shan is still alive and that the debt will be paid one by one.

Mu Tie explains what the Yunlan Sect has done

When the fighting pauses, Mu Tie explains the three years Xiao Yan missed. The Yunlan Sect began recruiting many disciples and placing them in key cities, and the royal family and the three great families chose not to act out of fear of Yun Shan's power. The sect is now planning to wipe out the Xiao family and then to take the royal capital, where it intends to exterminate the Miter family. Xiao Yan promises to return to the capital at once.
