Spoiler warning: this recap covers the whole episode.

Pill sales anger the Medicine Hall

Pan Gate's pill sales solve its fire power crisis, but the success angers the Medicine Hall, which had long monopolized pill sales in the inner court. The White Gang, which secretly colluded with the Medicine Hall, starts provoking Pan Gate by selling medicines for no reason, and its attacks even hurt Atai and others. When Xiao Yan learns of it, he refuses to let it pass and leads the whole Pan Gate to demand justice. The mastermind behind the Medicine Hall's moves is Han Xian, so Xiao Yan offers to settle the matter through a pill-refining contest.

Three recipes and the five trading venues

Han Xian pushes Xiao Yan to give up, saying it would be far better than being humiliated in public. Xiao Yan refuses to back down and puts his three recipes on the table. The stakes are clear: the five busiest trading venues, which belong to the Medicine Hall, would pass to Pan Gate if he wins. Some are worried the bet is too risky, but Xiao Yan trusts his skills. The contest is set for Grade 5 pills, and many in the crowd think even a talented young alchemist cannot refine one.

The Dragon Power Pill and the Illusory Golden Flame

The contest is for the Dragon Power Pill, a Grade 5 pill that gives the person who takes it immense strength in a short time. Two sets of ingredients are laid out, so each alchemist has two chances, and whoever refines first wins. Han Xian relies on an Illusory Golden Flame, which was found in the shell of a level 7 illusory fire scorpion dragon beast. Xiao Yan's problem is a low-quality furnace that cannot handle the excess heat of his Heavenly Flames. He still plans carefully, learning the properties of each ingredient before choosing the right temperature to extract them.

Han Xian's early finish and Elder Hao's ruling

Han Xian finishes first, but his pill is only half-finished, and Elder Hao doubts it even counts as a pill. Xiao Yan keeps refining, and his Dragon Strength Pill takes shape with a compact fusion. Someone accuses Xiao Yan of cheating by using the smoke from an earlier explosion, but Elder Hao rejects the claim. He checks the color, shape and smell, and rules that Xiao Yan has refined a successful Dragon Strength Pill.

Pan Gate's victory and a harder road ahead

The crowd calls Xiao Yan the first alchemist of the inner court, and Pan Gate celebrates. Han Xian admits he expected to lose, which ends the contest on Pan Gate's terms. Half a month later, Lin Xiuya and the others speed up their plans, and Xiao Yan turns to the Movement of 3000 Thunders. He begins refining the wind and thunder power sealed in its scroll, and the process turns out to be far more violent than he expected.
