Battle Through The Heavens Season 5 Episode 149

Episode 149 Full Recap (Spoilers)

Spoiler warning: this recap covers the whole episode.

Lin Quan Puts Xiao Yan on the Spot

Lin Quan is one of the eight generals of the Black Smoke Army, the elite force every young Gu clan member dreams of joining. He ranks only seventh among them, behind the four Commanding Generals who are most likely to become Black Smoke King. He calls Xiao Yan out in front of a crowd, saying he has long wanted a lesson from the alchemy assembly champion. Xiao Yan accepts, though he notices the challenge was sprung without warning. The clash is too garbled in the subtitles to show who gains the upper hand, so the outcome stays out of this recap.

A Hidden Hun Clan Member Gives Himself Away

While the duel is being set up, a hidden figure reveals himself as Hun Ya of the Hun Clan. He says he only came to see how far the once-mighty Xiao clan has fallen, then claims Xiao Yan's ancestor Xiao Xuan fell to the Hun Clan's own ancestor. Hun Ya vows that Xiao Yan will repay that old debt before the Xiao ancestral house. Xiao Yan says he will be waiting. The exchange turns the Hun Clan from distant rivals into a personal enemy.

The Yan Clan Explains the Heavenly Tomb

Two Yan clan members, Huo Xuan and Huo Zhi, approach next. They explain the Heavenly Tomb, a site holding the tombs of strong figures from antiquity. Their lingering energy takes the form of the abilities they had in life, and defeating those marks lets a fighter absorb them. Only the eight ancient clans may enter, and the Xiao clan is one of them, which is why Xiao Xuan's tomb sits inside. They also mention Yao Xinji, a Yao clan alchemist, intermediate eighth-rank, nicknamed Renyao Zi, whose strength is said to match Xiao Yan's. Finally, they relay an invitation from the Black Smoke general for Xiao Yan alone.

Why the Gu Realm Is Guarded So Tightly

Xiao Yan asks why the Gu clan guards its territory so tightly. The answer is that outsiders may linger in the Gu city, which also holds many lesser beings with thin Dou Di bloodline. That bloodline is impure but still valuable to the Gu clan, and the rules are tight around it. Asked what level would make the Gu clan ignore this bloodline, Xiao Yan says Dou Sheng. A Gu member answers that many of their own talents cannot hope for that rank, and Xiao Yan replies that he got here without relying on Dou Di bloodline at all.

Arrival at the Gu Sacred Mountains

The group nears the Gu Sacred Mountains, where a warning comes: anyone who disturbs the Gu clan will be expelled and barred for good. An elder speaking for the Gu clan welcomes them past the range to the Gu realm's main hall. Miss Xun'er offers to take Xiao Yan to rest, and the two of them head off ahead of the others.
