Yao Chen's Parents' Wish Drives Xiao Yan's Bid

Carving a name on the Yao Clan ancestral tablet is the lifelong goal of every member of the clan. Yao Chen's parents spent their lives chasing that dream and died without seeing it come true, so Yao Chen has had their names engraved as the deepest obsession of his heart. To help him fulfill it, Xiao Yan is determined to claim the championship at the Healing Ceremony. Before the event begins, the two are greeted warmly, and Elder Wanhuo's hospitality is thanked for their stay at the Yao Clan.

Shen Nong Arrives and the Upper Round Begins

Shen Nong the Old One, a Six-Star Dou Sheng and a Grandmaster Alchemist, comes to see the ceremony after his own alchemy stalled in seclusion. He notices that Xiao Yan's soul power has reached the peak of the Heavenly State. The upper round is reserved for the younger generation, and Yao Tian, the leading young talent of the Yao Clan, takes the spotlight. His Nine-Colored Pill Lightning is a Grade 8 pill, and he is declared the champion of the upper round. One remark notes that Xiao Yan could already refine tier 9 pills, which puts the main event in sharper focus.

Hun Xuzi Arrives Without an Invitation

The lower round, where the title of Number One Alchemist on the Continent is up for grabs, brings in Hun Xuzi, a Six-Star Dou Sheng. Yao Dan, the Clan Chief, makes clear that the Yao Clan sent no invitation to the Hun Clan, and that the Hall of Souls has been capturing souls for years. Hun Xuzi replies that he came through the front door with a ceremony invitation in hand and has interests in the title. Yao Dan lets him stay on the condition that he obeys Yao Clan rules, or he will be kept there forever.

Hun Xuzi and Yao Chen Trade Accusations

Hun Xuzi denies ever being a disciple, saying he never acknowledged the old ghost as his teacher. He tells Yao Chen that he should be thanking him, since he only spared him to serve the Hun Clan. Xiao Yan answers that anyone who betrays a master without honor has no right to speak against his teacher, and the exchange turns heated. Yao Dan steps in and says the Healing Ceremony is a stage for alchemists, so alchemy will be the yardstick. An apology follows, and the ceremony moves on.

A Fourth Contestant Challenges Hun Xuzi

Three giants of alchemy are named as contestants, and Yao Dan is not competing because he needs no title to prove himself. The question of a fourth contestant is raised, and the answer is a representative of Pill Tower, which is now a member of the Heavenly Mansion Alliance. That representative asks to exchange tips with Hun Xuzi over an artwork he is said to have stolen from Pill Tower. The request turns the final into a reckoning for Hun Xuzi's past.
