Episode 170 Full Recap (Spoilers)

Spoiler warning: this recap covers the whole episode.

Escape from the Ancient Bodhi Tree

Xiao Yan bids farewell to the Ancient Bodhi Tree, which sinks back into the ground, and he and his companions are sent out of the ancient tree region. Hun Yu and Jiu Feng, who gained nothing from the trip, move to seize the Bodhi Seed from Xiao Yan. They seal the space, and Hun Yu summons Gu You, a Semi-Saint from the Hun Clan. Xiao Yan condenses the Destructive Fire Lotus, badly wounds Gu You, and breaks the spatial seal so his group can escape.

Bodhi Seeds and the Bodhi Heart

Back at the pavilion, the Young Pavilion Master has slept for three full days. Xiao Yan says he is fine and has risen from Eight Star Dou Zun to the peak of Nine Turn Dou Zun. He brings back eleven Bodhi Seeds and offers them to anyone who needs them, mentioning that Brother Chen wants Bodhi Seed to refine medicine, but he is told to keep the rest. Then he reveals the Bodhi Heart, a gift from the Ancient Bodhi Tree for purifying the polluted energy in its body. The heart turns into Bodhi, letting one attain holiness at once.

Soul Hall's failed mission

Back at Soul Hall, the Soul Clan has returned empty-handed, and the Head of Hall is furious. A failed prodigy begs for one more chance and vows to stop the Falling Star Pavilion from growing stronger, claiming he already has a countermeasure. The Head of Hall warns that the young clan leader seat will not go to anyone who fails.

Yao Chen's breakthrough and Han Feng's betrayal

Yao Chen withdraws to cross the threshold to Semi-Saint for the Purifying Demon Lotus Flame, and before he goes, he hands the Falling Star Pavilion and the Yan Alliance to his students. Han Feng then turns on him. Yao Chen recalls rescuing Han Feng as a child on a snowy night and teaching him swordsmanship, pill refining and cultivation. When Yao Chen refuses to teach him the Fen Jue technique, Han Feng calls him an obstacle, uses a technique Mu Gu taught him, and vows to take his teacher's life. Yao Chen is stunned that the student he raised has become the sword that pierces him.

The Spirit Clan vanishes

Word comes from the Ancient Clan that the Spirit Realm, home of the Spirit Clan, has vanished with all its inhabitants, and no cause has been revealed. Because the Spirit Clan is one of the Eight Ancient Clans, the group concludes that another ancient power, most likely Soul Clan, must be responsible. Soul Hall is expanding its influence and is expected to target the Falling Star Pavilion first.

Heavenly Star Mountain Camp under attack

Next, Heavenly Star Mountain Camp comes under attack. Tian Ming, leading the Heavenly Underworld Sect alliance, declares that the Falling Star Pavilion has repeatedly disrupted his plans and vows to destroy it, with Soul Hall's full support. Most of the pavilion's spatial wormhole has already been destroyed, so it may be cut off from outside help. A new force, the Underworld River Alliance, is also tearing down branch pavilions, reportedly with the Ice River Valley and the Wind Lightning Pavilion among its members.
