Battle Through The Heavens Season 5 Episode 168

Episode 168 Full Recap (Spoilers)

Spoiler warning: this recap covers the whole episode.

Grudges set aside to bring down a Half-Saint

The episode opens with a difficult fight. Jiufeng and others put their grudges aside and join forces with Xiao Yan against a Half-Saint. Xiao Yan leads the crowd in surrounding the creature, but its strength is hard to handle and everyone is at a disadvantage. At the critical moment, Xiao Yan uses his soul power to find the weakness of the half-life ghost, which clears the roadblock that had been slowing the fight.

An illusion turns hatred against Xiao Yan

Xiao Yan and others close to the Yinti Ancient Tree are then trapped in an illusion. Inside it, Xiao Yan gambles and the person he cares about is killed by the Soul Palace, and his hatred and anger turn him into a demon. The Bodhi seed helps him regain his sanity in time, and he escapes the illusion and sees the ancient Bodhi tree at last.

A Dou Di soul wakes inside the ancient tree

A voice that the subtitles tie to a Dou Di (Emperor-rank) soul wakes as the ancient tree appears. It says it has waited a hundred years, calls an intruder an old ghost, and threatens to make him pay with blood. The soul plans to absorb the tree's energy and dominate the world. The subtitles also reveal that the tree itself was eroded by the Dou Di, which is why it became what it is today. A Bodhi seed is tested against that erosion and it works, but Xiao Yan says he has only one, so its help can only go so far.

Three treasures of the Bodhi tree

Xiao Yan notes that the Bodhi seeds are so pure that, if they appeared outside, they would attract countless strong people. He says he will not hold back. Refining just one seed exhausts his fighting spirit, but a magical formation replenishes it. The ancient records describe three treasures: the Bodhi seeds, Bodhicitta, and enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. The last one lets a person experience hundreds of reincarnations and gain the potential to break through toward the Dou Di realm. The lesson that follows is that joy and sorrow are both illusions that trap the heart, and only by transcending them can a person escape the cycle.

A standoff over the seeds and clan threats

Once Xiao Yan comes out of the tree, the mood changes. A rival says he now feels unfathomable, and others say the tree has remade him. A party demands the Bodhi seeds, claiming no one can leave this wild ancient domain without handing them over. Xiao Yan refuses, and the Hun Clan side calls his refusal unreasonable. A Hun Clan speaker warns that the ancient clan should not be rude, since the Hun Clan has let it live in peace for so long and is not afraid of it. The episode closes with a clash between the younger generations of the two tribes, with both sides calling their best fighters the strongest of their people.
