Episode 119 Full Recap (Spoilers)

Spoiler warning: this recap covers the whole episode.

The Copper Piece Gives Xiao Yan a Boost

Before the assessment, Xiao Yan is busy with Yao Lao's recovery and the bone-melting pill that could rebuild his body. Lord Tianhuo had sent him after the copper piece, and when a strange fire burns it, five grains of jade spirit dust condense out of it. Xiao Yan absorbs one grain, which strengthens his soul aura, and in the process he accidentally glimpses the Three Thousand Flames. The move shocks the three giants of the Dan Pagoda and sets the stage for how his soul power will be judged.

The Ye Family Bets Everything on Xiao Yan

The Ye family has been pushed out of the five great families, and Elder Ye promises to follow Xiao Yan's lead if he finishes in the top three. Rivals line up: Dan Xuan of the Dan family, Bai Ying of the Bai family, Qiu Ji sent by the Qiu family, and Cao Xiu, who the Cao family hopes will take over after Cao Dan's defeat. Cao Ying, the Cao family's top genius, is expected to stay out of the fight. Elder Sheng opens the first event, a soul test that requires level four to pass.

Soul Strength Test Breaks Records

Each candidate pushes soul power into the test stone. Bai Ying, Dan Xuan and Cao Xiu post strong results, but Xiao Yan's reading is so high that the stone shatters and Elder Sheng struggles to believe it. Elder Sheng declares the test over and names Xiao Yan first, which gives the Ye family its first real hope in the assessment.

Soul Beads Put Xiao Yan Ahead

The second event tests soul control over steel beads, and the winner is whoever collects the most. Qiu Ji takes forty-one white eagle beads, Cao Xiu takes forty-three, and Dan Xuan takes fifty-six. Xiao Yan takes ninety-three, passing Cao Ying's record of eighty-nine set years earlier, and he finishes first. The result forces the Cao family to ask for a substitution, which becomes the final challenge.

Cao Xiu Challenges Xiao Yan to Three Palm Prints

Cao Xiu asks to fight Xiao Yan in a soul duel, and he says that if Xiao Yan can take three soul palm prints, he will quit. Xiao Yan accepts, and the duel proves that he can match a Cao family fighter without falling behind. After only a few glances at Cao Xiu's soul palm, Xiao Yan seems to learn the technique. The contest ends with Xiao Yan taking the first place for the Ye family, and the Ye family passes the assessment.
