Episode 117 Full Recap (Spoilers)

Spoiler warning: this recap covers the whole episode.

The Ye Family Needs a Stand-In for the Trials

The Ye family is one of the five great families of Dan Tower, but it has no successor to pass the test. Only people who count as family can take part in those trials, so the elders decide that Xiao Yan must first become a son-in-law of the Ye family to compete for them. Ye Xinlan is worried that the arrangement will damage her reputation, but Xiao Yan says the plan is a formality. The goal is to rank in the top three and keep the family's elder seat for long enough to grow stronger.

The Cao Family Pushes for a Marriage

The Cao family sends someone to propose to Ye Xinlan, and when she refuses, the envoy threatens to remove the Ye family from the five great families. Cao Dan, a seventh-grade alchemist, steps forward to challenge Xiao Yan. He says that alchemists should not settle things with brute force, so they will settle it with a fire contest.

A Fire Duel Turns Into a Rout

Cao Dan calls up a strange fire, while Xiao Yan answers with his Heavenly Eagle Demon Fire taken from a three-headed Heavenly Eagle beast. Cao Dan says Xiao Yan's flame is too ordinary to matter. Xiao Yan replies that flame control is not only about quality, so he summons a second fire, then four, and finally ten. Cao Dan admits defeat and warns that the Cao family will deal with the Ye family later. The duel also brings up Cao Ying, a Cao family alchemist who became a core disciple of Dan Tower at seven and is expected to become a serious rival at the Dan Meet.

A Surge of Soul Power From Seclusion

Xiao Yan has been in seclusion for more than twenty days, and Ye Xinlan is worried about him. A burst of energy shakes the area, and Xiao Yan emerges. The elder asks whether Xiao Yan touched the Ling realm, and the talk turns to soul cultivation, which is split into four levels, and an ancient soul method called the Hun realm that has since been lost. The elder assumes Xiao Yan's teacher should have explained all of this to him.

The Dan Tower Assessment Ends in Dispute

Ye Chong takes Xiao Yan to receive his certification badge, and Han Li runs the assessment. Xiao Yan asks for the highest level available, and Han Li says the limit is seventh-grade intermediate. Two candidates from the Chou side and a Bai family guard pass the sixth-grade tests, and the Bai family mocks the Ye family along the way. When Xiao Yan clears the seventh-grade final, the Bai side cannot believe a waste could do it. Han Li apologizes that his level is limited and sends Xiao Yan to Dan Tower headquarters for a retest, so the assessment is not finished yet.
